CENTRAL REGION RECEIVES CLOSE SEASON RELIEF ITEMS
The Close Season relief items distribution began in the Central Region with the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson and other heads of the Ministry leading various teams to present relief items to fishers and fish processors in the Region.
The items included bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, chest freezers, bundles of wire mesh, and basins. The relief items are to appreciate the fisher folks’ support towards the directive and to encourage the use of appropriate methods to fish.
The close season directive seeks to replenish the fish stock and entire sustainability of the resources. It is also to encourage the practice of acceptable fishing practices for the needed impacts.
In a short statement to all beneficiaries in the various communities, Hon. Koomson pleaded with them to desist from all fishing illegalities after the Close season.
The 2022 closed season fishing as announced by Sector Minister, Mrs. Hawa Koomson, started from July 1, to August 1, 2022, for artisanal and semi-industrial fleets and July 1 to August 31, 2022 for industrial trawlers.
