MOFAD DEBUNKS ALLEGED CLAIMS OF FISH MORTALITY

A report from the Volta Regional office of Fisheries Commission, has debunked claims that dead fishes were washed ashore in any part of the coast in the Volta Region.

Following widespread speculations of fish mortality, an investigation revealed that contrary to what had been reported, on 3rd April, 2021 a group of Canoe/ Artisanal fishermen from Dzelukope using the Ali Poli Watse (APW) gear/net landed Skijack Tuna. This unusual catch led locals to speculate wildly that the fish had been washed ashore rather than caught at sea by the fishermen.

In a swift reaction, a team from the Fish Health Unit and the Fisheries Scientific Survey Division of the Fisheries Commission was dispatched to the area.

Samples of the fish and sea water was collected to be examined in the laboratory.
