FISHERIES MINISTER ATTENDS SIGNING OF OACPS HOST NATION’S AGREEMENT


The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson has attended the signing of the Host Country Agreement of the 7th Organisation of African Caribbean Pacific States (OACPS) Meeting of Ministers in charge of Fisheries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

The Honourable Minister of Fisheries described the signing of the agreement as a confirmation of Ghana’s acceptance and commitment to host the Meeting.

She expressed Ghana’s delight at being selected to host the 7th meeting among fouty -eight (48) African member states of the OACPS, describing it as a significant milestone, pledging to take full advantage.

The Minister assured that the Fisheries Ministry will collaborate with   the necessary partners to ensure that Ghana successfully host the meeting next year.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, signed for Ghana while Ms. Cristelle Pratt signed on behalf of her organization .

The meeting which is scheduled  for  April 5th to 8th 2022, will be attended by policy makers, practitioners, and other stakeholders within the fisheries and aquaculture sector   to provide strategic policy guidance and direction.

 

The visit of the OACPS Assistant Secretary Ms. Pratt  is the  first in the  number of visits expected from the secretariat at assessing  Ghana’s preparedness towards hosting the meeting.

In a related development, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, led the OACPS delegates   to pay   a courtesy call on the Chief of Staff Hon.  Akosua Freema Osei Opare at the Flagg staff house to brief her on preparatory works being done by the National Committee ahead of the conference.

In a brief statement, Hon.  Osei Opare echoed fishing as a key economic activity and source of livelihood for fisher folks and fishing communities, contributing to foreign exchange earnings and Food & nutrition security of the country.

She assured Ms Pratt of Ghana’s preparedness to host the meeting comes next year.
